All About Dr. Suzie

Just a little about me....

My name is Suzanne Larsen. I have been happily married for 18 years to my former Marine and Army Soldier, Jonathan Larsen. We have one daughter together, Gabrielle (Gabby). She is 16 (will be 17 in October) and a Junior in high school. Our family also consists of 2 Pitbulls who think they are human (Raider and Benelli), a ball python named Monty, a corn snake named Eliza, and two cats - a rescued Maine Coon named Max and a stray cat Gabby rescued named Scarlet. Gabby wants to be a vet, so she's getting plenty of experience with all our animals! Jonathan and I also run our own business. Jonathan is a gunsmith and firearms instructor. He sells firearms, hosts CWP classes, and holds classes to train in firearms safety, beginning shooting, and competitive shooting. The business was started not only because of Jonathan's love of firearms, but to help people be safe with firearms and, God forbid, protect themselves if needed. Gabby helps out with airbrushing firearms to make them "pretty" and is his apprentice. Check out our website: www.jlcustomarms.net

Education:
I received my Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Lander University in 2006. I then completed my Master's degree in early childhood education from the University of Phoenix in 2009. I most recently completed my Ed.D. in reading and literacy from Capella University. YAY!! It was an accomplishment that I wasn't sure I could achieve on more than one occasion, but as of March 31, 2016, I have FINISHED. :) Because of all the blood, sweat, and tears that I put in to the degree, don't be offended if I correct you from calling me Mrs. Larsen to Dr. Larsen. I said I would never do that, but after living through the dissertation process, I understand the importance of the title. My husband proudly proclaims us "Dr. and Mr. Larsen." ;)

Teaching Experience:
I have taught fourth grade, second grade, second grade single-gender girls, and third grade. Nine years of my experience was in the same school in Greenwood District 50. When Gabby was going off to high school and I realized that there was no way for me to advance in my current teaching position, I found MES. I was one of the TAP Master Teachers at MES and their Reading Coach for a year and 2 months. I was then promoted to my current position as District ELA and SS Coordinator.  I absolutely LOVE my job! I love working with teachers. I love being able to grow professionally alongside my teachers to make decisions for student success!!

Other Little Tidbits About Me:
- My favorite color is purple

- I asked for a Ford Mustang when I was 15. I received one 20 years later as a graduation present from my husband and daughter for my Ed.D. Her name is "White Pony" ;)

-I am a Georgia Bulldogs fan. I love the dog - UGA. It also keeps things interesting with a father who pulls for Clemson and a husband and daughter who pull for Carolina...I always have to be the oddball.

- I love coffee. I probably need an I.V. of it to keep me caffeinated.

-If you ever want to get me a gift - get me something for aromatherapy. It is what I need the most (other than caffeine) during the day.

-I'm an INFJ personality - I found that this site knows everything about me. LOL. It is astonishingly accurate. So, if you want to get to know me.... click here
And, I LOVE Game of Thrones, so I was very excited about the website with my personality type having one of my (ironically) favorite characters on it!!! And no, it's not just because he's "pretty", I really admired his character (and I love Ghost). Now I know why. :)

- I have a Teachers Pay Teachers store: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Dr-Suzies-Goodies

- I am an advocate for education and an advocate for what is right-especially for children. I will fight for both, till death. You know what they say about dynamite - it comes in small packages (and is married to a Marine! LOL)

"White Pony" - the sticker Jonathan bought me on the right says "Though she be but little, she is fierce" - A little Shakespeare to showcase the reading doctorate. And, he says the saying pertains to the car and the driver. ;)
