Learning.com

Learning.com is our Palmetto Digital Literacy Program that we have received for free compliments of the EOC.

This is a program that can and should be implemented in every classroom K-8 as it ties in to core content standards as well as the new Computer Science and Digital Literacy standards that you have all been hearing about this year.

Grades K-12 have access to the system. However, the courses are only written for K-8th grade. This does not mean that the high school cannot find useful information that could be used with students to train them on items such as PowerPoint, Research, Cyberbullying, etc.

Here is the very helpful handout for getting started that our wonderful consultant, Beverly, gave us when she visited the week of 9/18/17:

A review of some tips she gave MMS:
  • When setting a mastery percentage, 60% means they know the information, but to know that the students can APPLY the knowledge, the percentage would need to be 80%
  • There is at least one project available for every subject, every grade level. She suggests the math project for financial literacy for all grade levels.
  • Making a combined account for the grade level ensures that students are not retaught lessons several times.

A review of some tips she gave MES:

  • You will find PBL lessons in the "inquiry" section"
  • It was suggested by the leadership team to complete this in the computer lab instead of Odysseyware for the time being - focus on keyboarding.
  • You can create groups within the classrooms based on proficiency level, etc. for differentiation of instruction.
  • This is a program that can be used at home
  • 5th grade only - complete your assessment by October 20th!!
  • Changing your password - Click on your name at the top, click "edit", be sure you click "save" at the bottom
  • The Help icon has great guides and videos if needed.

When looking through the choices to assign students:
