Summer Reading Camp 2017

Summer Reading Camp 2017

We won a grant for $70,000 to fund our SRC for the current K5 - 3rd Graders.  We incorporated balanced literacy, STEAM, and community partners such as the MACK and the McCormick County Library into our program. Through our MACK partnership, we were also able to partner with Bricks for Kids. We also partnered with Tiny Techz and the McCormick County Library.

The Game Truck Through Tiny Techz
Tiny Techz partnered with us to teach the students how to develop their own video games. At the end of the lessons, the students enjoyed an afternoon at the "Video Game Truck" playing their favorite video games either inside on the XBox or PS4, or outside with us on the Wii doing Just Dance. ;)

Concentrating HARD

Bricks 4 Kids
Bricks 4 Kids incorporated STEAM and literacy by enabling the kids to collaboratively work together on their assigned projects using a manual with directions. They were given the tools they needed and set out together to build a working windmill. They were very proud of their efforts and proved that they can read directions and work together quite nicely when they want to! ;)

The McCormick County Library was gracious enough to come each week and read aloud to the students as well as host the students on a field trip to the library. They learned about their county library, walked down Main Street, and received a FREE book from the "Friends of the Library"

We ALL Got a Free Book!!!

Happy Birthday ;)
Sometimes you have to stop school to celebrate what's important...

On the last day - Perfect attendance drawing - they won a bike!
Academy Sports in Georgia was gracious enough to donate 4 bikes to us for our perfect attendance winners. I have to say it made our day and theirs!!!
I think the teacher AND student are about to cry. :)
